With the Leyland Festival just around the corner, we were honoured to sit down with our Mayor, Cllr Paul Wharton-Hardman BEM, to discuss this beloved community event now in its 136th year.
“It is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome you all to this year’s Leyland Festival – a celebration that brings our community together in a way few other events can.
Now in its 136th year, Leyland Festival remains a proud tradition with deep roots in our town’s rich heritage. From its beginnings as a modest gathering to today’s vibrant celebration of music, creativity, and community spirit, the Festival has always reflected the character of Leyland itself – proud, hard-working, and full of heart.
Leyland is a town built on innovation and industry, with a legacy that reaches far beyond our borders. Our world-renowned motors, our beautiful parks and green spaces, and our ever-growing local businesses all form the backdrop to a town that is constantly evolving – but never losing sight of who we are.
This year, I’m especially proud to champion the theme of inclusivity. Leyland Festival is, and always should be, a space where everyone feels welcome – whatever their background, ability, age, faith, identity or circumstances. As Mayor, I want to highlight the strength we find in our diversity and the joy that comes from opening our arms to all members of our community.
Whether you’ve lived here all your life or you’re visiting us for the first time, whether you’re dancing in the parade, selling at a stall, or simply enjoying the sights and sounds – you are a part of what makes Leyland special.
Thank you to all the organisers, volunteers, performers and supporters who work tirelessly to make this day a success. Your efforts keep this cherished tradition alive and thriving.
So, let’s celebrate all that Leyland was, is, and continues to become – together.”
Our sincere thanks to Mayor Cllr Paul Wharton-Hardman BEM for sharing these wonderful insights about what makes our Leyland Festival so special.
As we prepare to celebrate this 136-year tradition, we’re reminded that what truly matters is the coming together of our community – the laughter, the shared memories, and the pride we all feel for our remarkable town.
We wish the Mayor, the organisers, and every participant a fantastic festival filled with joy. May this year’s celebrations strengthen the bonds that make Leyland such an extraordinary place to call home.
