MEET THE ARTIST: MARTIN DEACON | LEYLAND FESTIVAL 2025
“Introduce yourselves! Who are you, and what’s your act all about?”
“I’m Martin Deacon – an ex-milkman turned radio presenter and DJ. It’s my mission to uplift your soul through music, one groove at a time.”
“What’s your history with Leyland Festival? Any standout memories?”
“I’ve been watching Leyland Festival and going to Worden Park for 60 years. Kenny Thomas, a few years back, was awesome – great performer and such a nice guy to boot!”
“As a local artist, what makes playing at Leyland Festival special to you?”
“What could be better than a born and bred Leylander playing for his fellow Leylanders? It doesn’t get more special than that.”
“Does our Lancastrian culture—its stories, places, or quirks—ever sneak into your music?”
“Leyland has always been a soulful town. We had plenty of venues catering to soul music in my teenage years during the 70s – St Ambrose, the Meths, Parish Hall, Cricket Club, Public Hall. That heritage definitely influences me.”
“After your set, where’s the first place in Leyland you’re heading for a celebratory bite or pint?”
“Probably heading to Towngate Social or the Ale House for a quiet pint to wind down after my set. Might not stay quiet for long though!”
“What’s your mission for this year’s festival? Give us a teaser of your set!”
“As long as people enjoy the music, that’s mission accomplished for me. Whether it’s ‘Heaven in the afternoon’ – well, that’s your call to make!”
With his lifelong passion for soul music and deep Leyland roots, Martin Deacon promises to bring warmth and nostalgia to the stage.
Catch him alongside mentor Jackie Moon at the Worden Hall Stage this festival.
